Problem with starting the Game

Postby erikboom on Sat Feb 06, 2010 5:04 pm

Trying to keep it short: After Starting the game (double clicking on the games name in steam), I can't see the usual Overview/Menu Screen. I hear the sound and if i move the mouse over the center area close to the left end of the screen i can hear the clicking reaction of the game options, but i see nothing.

My Computer:
Dual Core, enough Ram.
Windows 7 64bit, Nvidia Graphics Card, and i own the Orange Box.
Steam is updated, the original games too. I've also installed the latest Patch for NeoTokyo, but I'm still having the same problem.

I tried to search for this kind of problem on this forum, but about every word i tried to search for was stated as "too common", so no possibility to get any results, unfortunately.

Here are some Screenshots:

Starting the game from Steam.

This is the loading screen. The Screenshot is wrong: all i see is black in this moment.

This is when the game is loadet. It only fills a part of the screen and the sound is playing, but as you can see, i can't see any buttons, but hear their reaction if i move the mouse over them.

After Alt + Tab there is only a little black rectangle left in the upper left corner and the screensize changed to the original size of the game (i guess standard is 1024 x 768 ?). There are no possibilities to get the former picturescreen back.

Maybe somebody already knows this problem or knows what it is?
I am very very curious to finally play this game!
And: I'm not a native speaker so please excuse any strange spellings or sentences.

Windows 7 is the problem. For some reason NT and Win7 don't play nice together I hear.

I play NT in W7 just fine. You might have to wait for it to load and not get impatient as most people get when loading games.

NT has this strange thing about it where if you tab out or click around before its fully loaded or when you're loading games, it'll crash. Or do what just happened to you.

What are you talking about? I have no problems what so ever with Windows 7.

To the OP. Have you tried joining a server directly through the server browser without starting the game first?

Okay, so I've waited very very long now, but nothing happens. The thing is, that the background music of the menu is already played, so I think everything is already loadet. And, like I said, the game options on the left end of the screen are already there and I can click on them, but still, no visual changing.

didn't know this function, but I tried it now. The game crashed when i tried.

Maybe I should just try to reinstall it.

Are you playing in full screen mode?

if so, try going to steam, right click neotokyo hit properties, click 'launch options' and type "-window" without the quotes.

wow, fail me for giving advice, and now I have this very problem.

I play windowed mode, changed nothing from last time I open NT, and now when I open, no menu. I hear background music, and if I move my mouse there, the little 'tinks' from the menu buttons ,but when I click them they open their windows, EXCEPT when I click the find servers button - nothing happens.

console still opens.

idk what this is.

Whenever I get graphics glitches, recording a demo then stopping it seems to fix it. Not sure if you can do it in the menu, but I'd give it a try.

Okay! I found what was causing this same exact problem for me. If you are running multiple screens like me, source doesn't like this; I noticed this same exact problem with Insurgency. All you have to do is right click on your desktop, go to your resolution settings, and change the multiple display setting to "show desktop only on 1" or "show desktop only on 2" depending on what screen you want to play on. Then the game should start up just fine
