Tournament Information

The Nine Sisters Tournament will start on November 21st (Saturday). Playoffs will be held on November 21st and November 22nd. Semifinals and Finals will be held on November 28th and 29th.

edit: Understandably quite a few teams can't make it on such short notice so we've decided to delay everything by one week. This means the tournament will start on November 28th and the finals have consequently been moved to December 6th. Contact me if this causes any problems, we might still be able to have a few games this weekend if people are available.

We encourage all players to join the steam group and the IRC channel #ninesisters @ irc.gamesurge.net .

European Division
Matches will start at 9:00 PM CET (GMT+1). We understand time zones can be a bit tricky, so if you are unsure about when your match will start in your local time, pm me.

Teams will be randomly divided into 4 groups. Since there are 7 teams one team will proceed directly to the quarterfinals on Sunday while the other teams will play their matches on Saturday. We have three European servers so they can be done simultaneously if everyone's available.

American Division
Matches will start at 9:00 PM EST (GMT-5). If you are unsure about when your match will start in your local time, pm me.

Since there are only three teams and seeding one into the semifinals seems a bit unfair we're going to do round robin instead of elimination. This means that all teams play each other (three matches in total). If one team beats both the other two they will obviously be the winner. If the teams all have one win each the team with the most "clean" victories will proceed to the finals.

Brackets are now available here.

Match Rules and Maps

We have decided to limit the selection of maps to the following nine:
Dawn, Engage, Redlight, Rise, Shrine, Subsurface, Tarmac, Threadplate, Vtol

Playoffs
Matches will be carried out on any two of the above maps chosen by the teams. Each map will be played with a scorelimit of 10. If there's a draw the winner will be decided by the "cleanest" victory (10-6 beats 10-8 etc.). If it's still a draw, a third map will be played.

We would appreciate it if team leaders informed the tournament team of their map choice at least 24 hours before the match in order to give both us and the opponent time to prepare.

There are several ways to contact us:
a) PM one of the Tournament Leaders (Agiel or Alone) here or via Steam.
b) Join #ninesisters @ irc.gamesurge.net and inform us there.
c) Send an email stating your team name, opponent name, date of match and map choice to " nt (dot) 9 (dot) sisters (at) gmail (dot) com "

If the maps chosen are the same, the latest team to announce their choice will pick a new one.

Semifinals & Finals
The winner of the semifinals and finals will be decided by best of three maps. These have been decided in advance and will be:
nt_engage_ctg (Grey's personal choice)
nt_tarmac_ctg
nt_redlight_ctg

(Maps will be played in the above order)

Additional Information
+ No plugins will be used on the servers (i.e. no xp scaling, no corporal plugin, etc.).
+ mp_forcecamera will be set to 1 to prevent ghosting. This essentially works like fade to black but looks like crap.
+ Teams are allowed to use Ventrilo, Mumble, Team Speak or other means to communicate with each other.
+ There is no class limit.
+ There is no SRS limit.
+ Try to keep left lean exploiting to a minimum.

Within 1 hour after a match ends, team leaders are required to collect .dem recording from all their players and mail them to nt (dot) 9 (dot) sisters (at) gmail (dot) com. The losing team also announces the match result.

You MUST send demos from all players!
If there is a dispute and there is no .dem file available, the offending team WILL be disqualified.

And Finally...
This is a little thing we came up with when we first decided to organize the Nine Sisters Tournament:

After every successful group match, the best player on the winning team will be determined by his ingame score. For the next match we ask that this player (i.e. MVP) wear the following tag in front of his name (in addition to his regular clan tag of course). This tag will symbolize the skills and abilities of this player, and will let the other team know who they should a) be afraid of and b) try to kill as soon as possible ;)

The tag:
[ASH]

If you're wondering where all this comes from we recommend that you watch the amazing movie "Avalon", directed by Mamoru Oshii.

Also, doesn't this image remind you of something...?

The brackets are now up here and will be updated as the tournament progresses. Please contact me or Alone as soon as you can about your map choice.

Server info will be available one hour before the matches start at the very latest. Times aren't exactly set in stone so if you for some reason want to do the match earlier (on the same day) and can agree on this with your opponent, contact me and I should be able to get the server info for you if it's not already available.
