Nine Sisters Tournament Finals

Postby Agiel on Thu Dec 03, 2009 11:29 pm

We started with ten teams and after a number of awesome matches we are now down to only three. In the North American division Team Zanshi ended up as champion after only one match against The Neotokyo Professionals since the third team As We Fight couldn't make it to the play-offs.

The European division has been a lot more interesting and there's still one more match before we know who the champion is. From one side of the brackets we have French team Canards in the Shell, very narrowly defeating their countrymen in All Starz Gamerz + Teddy Bear Attack and NeoFrag° Alpha. From the other side we have international team Econsole!, easily defeating NeoFrag° Beta in their first match and a day later the German noobs in aXtion, who did really well for not having played since the patch (or so they say).

This Saturday, December 5th, at 9 pm CET (3 pm EST) we will see Canards in the Shell vs. Econsole! in a match to decide the European champion. We experimented with SourceTV last week and it seems to be working fine, so be sure to keep an eye on that Spectate tab in your server browsers ;).

A week later around the same time we will see the final clash of continents in a battle to decide who gets the approval of the Nine Sisters and the right to wear the [wizards] tag. We haven't quite figured out the details yet but expect the match to move between European and American servers to make it fair latency-wise.

Both of these matches are going to be best of three maps (Engage, Tarmac and Redlight). We noticed that the teams often tend to play safe and wait out the round timer, so in order to make the matches more exciting we have decided to lower the round time limit from 4 minutes to 3 and the score limit from 10 to 8. People have been suggesting other changes but hopefully this is a good compromise. After the tournament I will be posting a feedback thread where players and spectators can tell us what they thought about the tournament in general and discuss issues like this in more detail.

For more information about the tournament go here. For detailed write-ups about the previous matches go here. Also, make sure to join the Steam group at http://steamcommunity.com/groups/nt9sisters and visit the IRC channel at #ninesisters @ irc.gamesurge.net for real time updates about the upcoming matches. Stay tuned!

Update on the videos: It's hard work people, but I almost have the first video finished (ECO vs NF Beta). Expect it to be released on Sunday.

The following teams have provided me with complete match demos and I can start working on them next:

Zanshi vs NT.P
CPC vs. NF Alpha
CPC vs. ECO (potentially)

Sadly, for all other matches, not all demos have been provided, and I will not be working on them. This includes CPC vs. aSg|Tba, ECO vs X, and NF Alpha vs DTE.

Nice :)

That will be great, I hope that the changes on rules will make the tournament even more interesting!

I scheduled an event on the community page but I'd better write it here too. :D

Team Zanshi vs. Econsole!, Sunday, December 13th at 9 pm CET (3 pm EST).
North America vs. Europe. Continent vs. Continent. JINRAI vs. NSF.
Who will win this final match of the first Nine Sisters Tournament? This Sunday we will have the answer. Don't miss it!

The Finals will be carried out on two servers: ECO Nine Sisters #1 (Euro) and / A.W.F / (US).

ECO already has a working and stable SourceTV, and we hope AWF can set up SourceTV for their server (last time it was working but crashed as soon as the match started).

The match format will be as follows: one (1) map will be played on the US server, and one (1) map on the Euro server. If both teams have a win on each map, then nt_redlight_ctg will be played twice (once on each server, up to 6 wins). Where the first map will be played will be decided by Agiel flipping his coin.

Thanks ECO for letting us (zanshi) practice on your server ahead of time to get used to the lag. When the match rolled around we played both maps on the ECO server because even our highest ping player said he was doing fine.

Good games everyone. :D

Even though the entire match was played on a European server Team Zanshi didn't seem to be crippled at all by the lag and could easily win the first map Engage with 8-1. Econsole managed to pull themselves together for Tarmac but it wasn't quite enough and the second map ended with the score 8-5 to Team Zanshi.

This means that Team Zanshi is the winner of the first Nine Sisters Tournament and they have earned the right wear the [wizard] tag if they choose to (until next time ;)).

I hope everyone has enjoyed the tournament and I hope all of you will be back for the next season. I would appreciate it if you posted your thoughts in the feedback thread here.

On behalf of Team Zanshi I would like to thank the staff of the 9 Sisters Tourney and the teams that participated. I know I did not play myself, but my clan really had a great time and it was fun to see the NEOTOKYO thrill re-kindled in their hearts.

I think this was a great effort by the community, and I hope Zanshi will stick arround to defend the crown in 9 Sisters #2!

Thanks again
